Albums of the Year List by: SubRosa
The Canadian Profound Lore Records is well known for its tasteful roster, but sometimes even their high quality list of releases has definite highlights – such as the third album of the Salt Lake City doom outfit SubRosa. ‚More Constant Than The Gods‚ as of now marks the high-point in the bands œuvre: six beautiful monoliths, complex, varied and bearing a seldomly seen elemental force. Bassist Christian Creek took his time to participate in the HeavyPop Advent calendar 2013, and tell us about his favourite records of this past year.
1. True Widow – ‚[amazon_link id=“B00D09AXL4″ target=“_blank“ ]Circumambulation[/amazon_link]‘
The third release, and to me it starts off from where the previous record ended. Stunning sound, in the way of all things melancholy with a hint of shoegaze.
2. Uzala – ‚[amazon_link id=“B00H317PC0″ target=“_blank“ ]Tales of Blood & Fire[/amazon_link]‘
Boise, Idaho, USA-based 3-piece that presents a roots-doom sound with a beatiful and artistic edge. A sound that has been drowned out by the obsession of walls of amps and inverted crosses.
3. Sidewalks and Skeletons – ‚[amazon_link id=“B00E5EQOAC“ target=“_blank“ ]This Is Your Escape[/amazon_link]‘
This producer deserves much more recognition in the witch house scene. He has a lengthy discography of haunting music that captures an intense and dark mood while tying in elements of electronic dance music.
4. Jucifer – ‚[amazon_link id=“B00EPRH3D6″ target=“_blank“ ]There Is No Land Beyond Volga[/amazon_link]‘
Jucifer are legends. Amazing album, most notably the second half, where it becomes ones of the heaviest, thickest, crushing, hard-hitting things I have heard in a very long time.
5. The Body – [amazon_link id=“B00EJYGQLA“ target=“_blank“ ]Christs,Redeemers[/amazon_link]‘
The Body’s most diverse and dynamic work yet. Horror and darkness still remain in their ultra down-tuned, sludgy sound, but they have added so many other elements as opposed to previous releases.
